More details
I've decided that teaching people how to knit will support my local yarn shop and the knitting industry at large. Thinking about it, I thought that if all of the other knitters I know also teach someone to knit we could maybe improve the economy just a little. We all know someone who always admires our handiwork, so put some needles in their hands and get knitting!

Maybe everyone you know already knits, teach them a new technique! For instance, my mom was already a knitter, a knitter who didn't knit socks. She was always asking me to knit socks, so I eventually gave her a sock kit for her birthday and what do you know, she's knitting socks like crazy. This of course means that she's also buying sock yarn. I think you see where this is going.

So teach someone you love how to knit, if only for the sheer thrill of sharing something you love.

  • My apologies to the crocheters, of course we would love it if you pledged to crochet!!!!
  • Thanks for opening this up to crocheters - I just signed the pledge :) My personal goal is to first teach my youngest daughter, then at least one other young girl in my neighbourhood. I'll talk about my progress on my Needlework Patterns & Gadgets blog.
  • Don't know whether it'll be knit or crochet, but I'll happily sign up to teach someone a yarn craft (in all likelihood I'll end up doing it anyway :) )
  • My sister will be a grandma for the first time in April and she doesn't know how to crochet or knit...bad Gramma!
So this would be a perfect time to teach her to crochet!

  • Love this! I pledge to spread the knitting love throughout the world! There are so many glorious fibers just waiting to be transformed and some many idle hands out there itching for something productive to do. So this is the answer! It's brilliant. Thanks for letting me be a part of this!
  • I'm teaching my 15 year old son to knit. He's knitting a scarf and he's managing ok. He's better at knit than purl though and gets me to do the purl rows.
I'll post some pics on my blog soon :)
  • I'm going to teach my 9 year old how to do tunisian. It occurred to me today how easy it would be, but for some reason I don't usually think of teaching kids how to do tunisian!
  • This is such a great idea! I'm a knitting teacher as well, but for this pledge I'll be teaching my left-handed sister to knit...and I'll promote this on my blog. Thanks, Angela!
  • I had a great day teaching a girlfriend how to knit and as a bonus I found out that she could crochet so she taught me. We each got to learn something new today. Thank you.
  • I taught a knitter how to do the Kitchener weaving technique - and she was pleased to discover how easy it really is.
